Cornflakes
On The Balcony
Breakfast-bowl politics:
I said I was having cornflakes,
And now I’m eating my words.
From the balcony, here,
I can change the world.
Fuelling up to write
More thought-provoking shite.
Who needs politics, anyway?
I’ve got Greenwich nightlights
Just over there, and balcony nightlife
Running its rails through my hair.
I am King of all I survey,
If I want it that way –
So what use are slogans, soundbites,
Sleaze and lies;
Promises that die
Like wasps at the end of summer
Once they’ve already stung you
Over and over?
Give me only
what I’ve got,
But give me no more:
Cornflakes and balconies
Is all I want to vote for.
