On Drugs
Drug culture:
When you have to do something insane
Just to stay sane.
Because life can become too hard,
Too bare,
And we aren’t good at facing fear.
Because we crave stimulation –
Not found
In the million monotonies
Of this home-bred
Alien Nation.
Drug vulture:
When you’re bald from frustration,
In need of elation.
It’s selfish, yes,
But it’s a welcome break –
A pit-stop, tyre-change, oil
Lake.
Drug culture:
Because this is my day
Which comes from back in
Your day.
Because your day is faking,
And our day is
Overtaking.
We drive through pills and pot,
Through polls and spit;
We steer through lines and dope,
Through loans and smoke
To find hope.
